ABOUT

Experience Tattoo Wonderland

Tattoo Wonderland, located in the heart of Brooklyn, NY, specializes in creating one-of-a-kind tattoos. Just like you!

Established in 2012 after working in various tattoo shops and parlors in New York and New Jersey, the founder, Christopher Danley, had a profound idea: why not create a tattoo shop that never cuts corners?

The idea didn’t sound profound, however in his experience, cutting corners was the norm for many other shops.

This time, nothing would be spared in order to provide the best tattooing experience for his clients & artists, bar none. The difference is apparent when you first enter the shop. Clients are treated as family and become creative partners in the design of their tattoo.  We only use state-of-the-art tattooing equipment, advanced cross-contamination prevention practices, and pride ourselves to give the ultimate attention to detail.

The highest levels of cleanliness are meticulously maintained while providing an environment that exudes a calming sense of welcome & acceptance for everyone.

We pride ourselves on listening to our customers and tailoring their ideas into a tattoo masterpiece that will last a lifetime.  Our artists specialize in Custom Designs, Neo-Traditional, Fineline, Dot-Work, White Ink Tattooing, Black & Grey, Japanese-Inspired, American Traditional, Geometric, Watercolor, Trash Polka, High Graphic, and Hand Poked Tattoos.

Tattoo Wonderland isn’t just another tattoo shop, but in of itself a completely new experience.  We humbly invite you to join us.

“You Belong at Tattoo Wonderland!”

I began an uninspired apprenticeship in a small street shop in New Jersey. Luckily one artist visiting from France took me under his experienced wing and imparted his knowledge before returning to France to open his shop.

FAQ

Can I get a quote for a tattoo over the phone or via email?

At Tattoo Wonderland we pride ourselves in providing excellent customer service.  With that in mind, it is imperative for us to conduct an in-person consultation prior to tattooing.

So many factors come into play in accurately providing a quote, including but not limited to, size, placement, style, complexity, difficulty, subject matter, and choice of artist.

Call us at 718-375-0326 and schedule an in-person consultation.

Thank you!

Do I have to have a drawing prepared before visiting the shop?

Not at all. That is why we are here!  We are more than happy to help you make your tattoo dream into a reality.  Having a clear idea of what you want the tattoo subject matter to be is the first step. Additionally, having solid references from books, magazines, photos or digital images will further help us create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

A few websites you can use for inspiration include:

Instagram.com/TattooWonderland

YouTube.com/TattooWonderland

Pinterest.com/tat2wonderland

Do you have “flash racks” or pictures of tattoos to choose from?

We know a lot of older shops have these racks with a couple of hundred of tattoo pictures to peruse.  At Tattoo Wonderland, we instead pride ourselves in creating purely custom tattoos.  When a client brings in images for inspiration, we use these as a jumping off point to create a completely original design.  Copying an image or another tattoo is something we promise we will never do.  You are original, why shouldn't your tattoo be as well?

Do I get to choose my artist?

We wouldn’t have it any other way.  This is your tattoo and something that will be with you for the rest of your life.  We understand that choosing your artist is a very personal matter. Come in, speak to our artists, take a look at our portfolios, and then decide.  Please remember that all of our customers are subject to our artist’s availability, schedules, and artistic styles.

What is your telephone number?

(718) 375-0326.  Please keep in mind our availability for phone calls is rather limited. The best way to get the information you need is to visit Tattoo Wonderland in person. Second best way is to send us an email, info@TattooWonderland.com.

Some questions can only be answered in person.

How do I schedule an appointment for a consultation?

Your best bet is to call the shop and speak to one of our artists. During your consultation with your preferred artist, we will discuss subject matter, style, size, placement options, and pricing.

If an artist's schedule permits, we may be able to tattoo you directly after your consultation.  However if the design requires more time to create,  a deposit will be made by the client to start the drawing process.  All custom tattoo deposits are applied to your total tattoo price.  A drawing review will then be scheduled to view the tattoo design in person.  After your drawing review an appointment will be set for your tattoo to be applied.

To ensure that appointments are kept, it is our strict policy that all appointment deposits are non-refundable.  If you need to reschedule your appointment, you must contact Tattoo Wonderland during our normal business hours, ONE WEEK (7 DAYS) in advance of your scheduled appointment.  In the event you do not notify us with ONE WEEK (7 DAYS) notice, your deposit will be forfeited and will NOT be applied to the total cost of the tattoo.  Prior to scheduling another appointment, another deposit equal to the original deposit amount must be paid.

What is your minimum cost for a tattoo?

Our current shop minimum is $100.  The final price is dependent on size, detail in the design, and location of the body where the tattoo will be placed.  We pride ourselves in providing you with the best tattoo possible while remaining competitive with other shops of our caliber.

What if I am 18 or older, but do not have a photo ID?

Tattoo Wonderland requires a valid State or Federal Photo ID from all clients. No exceptions.  Examples of acceptable forms of ID include State ID, Driver’s License, Military ID, or Passport.  A New York State Non-Driver Identification Card is easily obtainable with proper documentation from the

New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Where are you located?

Our shop lies in the heart of Brooklyn’s Bendonhurst/Midwood / Mapleton neighborhoods

1580 McDonald Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11230.

When are you open?

Tattoo Wonderland is regularly open six days a week (Closed Tuesdays) from 12noon to 9pm, though we have been known to stay open later. Like most other businesses, we are closed on certain holidays. We always announce when we will be closed on our Instagram account: @TATTOOWONDERLAND.

Tattoo Parlors are always so ominous and I just don’t feel welcomed. What is Tattoo Wonderland like?

We are definitely one-of-a-kind.  Just like you!  Our shop is bright and open, filled with eclectic art and surprises.  The tattoo artists at Tattoo Wonderland are genuinely honored to help you design and apply the tattoo of your dreams.

How long is the wait?

This is a difficult question to answer. It depends on who is tattooing, how many tattoo artists we have available, how many clients have prearranged appointments, and what size of tattoos are being given that day.  We always encourage our clients to set up a consultation to discuss your tattoo ideas.

Early afternoon appointments are typically easier to acquire than nighttime.  Weekends and evening sittings are usually more coveted than other times.  You are always welcome to call us to check on availability, (718) 375-0326.

I have wanted a tattoo for such a long time but I am unsure what to choose. Can you tell me what to get?

We couldn’t be happier that you have chosen Tattoo Wonderland for your first tattoo!  Thank you!  While we are more than happy to make suggestions, the subject matter of your tattoo is always up to you.  Choosing a tattoo design is a very personal decision and our experienced artists are always willing to take your inspiration and develop an idea that suits your personal tastes.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We gladly accept cash, and most major credit cards. We currently accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. We also accept debit cards with either a Visa or MasterCard logo. You are welcome to split your payment between cash & card.  We do not offer cash back or accept checks.

Do you do one-of-a-kind custom pieces?

Congratulations!  You have found the perfect tattoo shop for custom designs.  Tattoo Wonderland thrives on creating unique pieces of tattoo art.  During your initial consultation, we will fill out a custom tattoo form, detailing your tattoo.  We may take measurements and photos, make preliminary sketches, and take down your contact information.  Make sure to bring a valid State or Federal Photo ID!  If you have photographs, magazines, books, or other digital media (Cd’s, DVDs, USB Drives, Portable Hard Drives) please bring them with you.  We may make copies or request that you email us your inspiration for your file.

How old do I have to be to get a tattoo?

It is against New York State Law (Section 260.21) to tattoo a minor, even with parental consent.  In accordance with this law we have a strict No Minors policy.  All customers must be at least eighteen years of age with a valid State or Federal Photo ID to get a tattoo. No exceptions.

Is there parking near your store?

Yes.  Street parking is both metered and non-metered in our neighborhood.  On all metered parking, a two hour limit is placed.  All streets in our neighborhood abide by street cleaning regulations and signs clearly mark when street parking is permitted.

How do I get to you by subway?

Tattoo Wonderland is located steps from the F Line, Avenue N stop.  Look for the bright lime green building at 1580 McDonald Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11230.  We are located near the intersection of McDonald Avenue and Avenue N.

How do I take care of my tattoo?

Once you arrive home, remove the bandage slowly and carefully from your new tattoo after 2 to 6 hours. All wounds need to breathe if they are to heal properly.  If the bandage has adhered to the tattoo, run clean, lukewarm water over the bandage until you are able to easily remove the dressing.

Wash the tattoo using a mild antibacterial soap (such as Dial Foaming Antibacterial) and warm water. Take care to gently remove all traces of blood and plasma as this will cause scabbing. Do not scrub the tattoo with a washcloth during the first 4 weeks of healing. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel and allow the area to dry for 10 to 20 minutes.  During this time the skin will become slightly tight and will allow the moisture introduced during washing to evaporate out.

Once the tattooed area is dry, apply a very thin coat of ointment to the tattoo. We only recommend using HUSTLE BUTTER DELUXE.  Only use enough ointment to make the area shine; a little ointment goes a long way.  Too much ointment may trap germs into your new tattoo which can potentially lead to infection. Work the ointment in well and dab off excess with a clean paper towel. There should be just enough to keep the tattoo moist and to keep it from scabbing. Do not re-bandage the tattoo.

Repeat the cycle of washing, drying, and applying ointment to the tattoo 3 times per day for the first 3 days (while the tattoo feels tender).  Remember to thoroughly clean your hands and fingernails with an anti-bacterial soap prior to applying ointment, to avoid cross contamination.  Using a clean paper towel instead of your bath towel to dry the area is also imperative as bath towels can harbor infection inducing bacteria.

Ointment can and should be applied whenever the tattoo is feeling stiff or dry but beware of over-moisturizing. Your body will absorb what it needs where it needs it. Apply ointment 3 times a day for two to three days. After the initial 3 day period, applyHUSTLE BUTTER DELUXE moisturizer twice a day for 3-5 weeks. Please do not use any lotions that contain colors, fragrances, aloe, or excessive alcohol at all until the healing is complete.  These additional ingredients can highly irritate an already very sensitive healing process.

Moisturizing is key to preventing excess scabbing.  When your tattoo is kept properly clean and moist it will have less of a chance to form a scab.  You may form a scab or membrane over the tattoo while it heals.  Don’t worry.  This is perfectly normal.  This protective layer will eventually flake or peel off on its own.  It is perfectly normal to see flakes of colored skin falling off during this stage of healing.  It is important to resist the urge to pick, scratch, or manually peel the tattoo yourself.  Doing so may pull the ink out of the skin or in some cases permanently scar the area.  When the area itches, place a clean paper towel over the area and lightly tap the area to alleviate the itching sensation.

While keeping the tattooed area clean is imperative, long showers or baths must be avoided for 3 to 4 weeks. Prolonged soaking can and will loosen the protective scab formed.  You may risk losing the tattoo from such activities as swimming, bathing, or soaking in hot tubs and saunas.  During the healing process, 10 minute or shorter showers are best.  Refrain from using your everyday towel to dry off your tattoo.  Cross contamination is possible and you will be best served dabbing your tattoo with a fresh paper towel after your shower.

Vigorous sweating or working out is best avoided for the first 1–2 weeks of the healing process.  Excess sweating will retard the healing process and could lead to infection.

The sun is the bane of all new tattoos. Whether the tattoo is new or old, if you want your masterpiece to look brand-new and heal properly, take the time to avoid the sun.  Additionally, sunburn on a fresh tattoo can destroy a new tattoo.  Even mild exposure to UV rays will excessively dry out your tattoo and may cause the area tattooed to form a destructive scab resulting in fading and pocking before the area has had a chance to heal.  UV ray exposure from a tanning bed will prohibit the new tattoo to heal properly.  In addition, the area will take much longer to heal and may promote scarring of the skin in a new tattoo. Wait until the tattooed skin is fully healed before sun or UV ray exposure.  While you should never use sunblock on a healing tattoo, using a high quality sunblock with a SPF of 30 or higher after the tattoo has healed is an extra step that will help your tattoo last for years.

Clothing, Bed Linens, & Pets:  Please insure that all clothing worn over your fresh tattoo to be completely dry, clean, and loose.  After receiving your tattoo please insure that ALL bed linens are freshly washed.  If you do have pets please take care not to expose your tattoo to any pet dander or hair.  We advise all of our clients who sleep with their pets to make other sleeping arrangements for them for the first 3-4 weeks of the healing process to avoid any chance of infection.

Should your tattoo require a touch-up due to ink fading or fallout, we are happy to honor a 60 day complimentary touch-up policy only if both Hustle Butter Deluxe and Dial Foaming Antibacterial Soap were purchased and applied as prescribed.  Should you need a touch up after the 60 day period we are more than happy to touch-up your tattoo for a nominal charge.

Following all of these easy to follow tips will help to ensure that you end up with the best healing results with minimal complications.  Should you have further questions about tattoo aftercare do not hesitate to contact us at Tattoo Wonderland.

Our Mission

Too many times, mission statements are so nonspecific they sound as if they could apply to every business.  Not ours.  While Tattoo Wonderland’s mission statement is longer than most, it was imperative that we include every word.

1.  Tattoo Wonderland is different by design.  At its inception we created an environment that welcomes everyone.  EVERYONE.  There exist too many places in this world that attempt to drive a chasm between us.  Tattoo Wonderland is our oasis.  We welcome all faiths, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, handicaps and disabilities.

Our customers can be assured that our business practices are sound and legal, that our facilities are completely hygienic and up-to-code, and that we regularly give back to our community.

2.  Tattoo Wonderland employees work under the best conditions with the best equipment possible.  Tattoo Wonderland does not cut corners.  While we honor our past tattooing techniques, we have adapted our artistic talents utilizing the latest innovations available.  We offer our employees a fair and equitable compensation package, breaks, and time off.  Our artists are not expected to turn and burn tattoos, but to create lasting works of art on each customer we have the privilege to tattoo.

3.  Tattoo Wonderland is committed to upholding these practices daily to meet our short-term and long-term goals.  We believe that by upholding these truths, our business will attract the best artists and the best customers.
